New DOB rule takes effect July 1
NYC Construction Superintendents
Must Register With
NYC Department of Buildings
Effective July 1, 2007, construction superintendents begin register with the NYC Department of Buildings. To register as a construction superintendent, an individual must meet certain qualifications and training requirements as outlined below. Beginning January 1, 2008, the Buildings Department will issue permits for new buildings or demolition of low-rise buildings (up to and including 14 stories) only to applications naming a registered construction superintendent, excluding applications for one-to-three family dwellings. Beginning July 1, 2008, new building and demolition permits for one-to-three family dwellings will require a registered construction superintendent. Superintendent registration fees are $100 and for a three year period. The rule outlines requirements that individuals must meet in order to register, including experience and education qualifications. Education requirements include:
  • 40 hour Site Safety Manager,
  • 7 hour Site Safety Manager Refresher
  • OSHA 10 Hour
